Dia al-Azzawi
Iraqi, b. 1939
Multidisciplinary artist known for works that draw on Arab heritage, literature, folklore, and political history across painting, sculpture, printmaking, and artist’s books. A leading figure in modern Iraqi and Arab art, he authored the manifesto Towards a New Vision in 1968 and has documented conflict in Iraq and Palestinian suffering in works including Sabra and Shatila Massacre (1982–83). His work is held by Tate Modern.
